Park Interpreter

Department: Parks
Location: Dawsonville, GA

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Park Manager, this position performs husbandry duties and handling of the Ambassador Animal collection, schedules and conducts interpretive programs, scripted and informal shows, and recreational activities for park visitors and guests at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associate’s Degree or higher in related field required; at least three months of husbandry/animal handling/education experience required; combination of experience may substitute for degree.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required. Experience using Google Drive is preferred. Must know how to perform research using the Internet.

Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver’s License is required for this position.

To perform the job successfully, an individual should perform the following essential functions of the position:

  • Daily husbandry duties including but not limited to cleaning, diet prep, feeding, enrichment, training, handling, and basic veterinary care of the animal collection (including raptors and reptiles)
  • Maintaining records in the animal care log
  • Scheduling of programs and activities
  • Performing educational programs for field trips, outreaches, and informal meet-and-greets
  • Creating and implementing a diverse and ongoing series of educational programs, workshops, and special events for the Park
  • Provides world class guest service in accordance with established guidelines and standards
  • Works closely and professionally with the Assistant Park Manager to ensure visitor and guest satisfaction
  • Provides a safe and sanitary environment for visitors, guests, and employees
  • Knowledge of Husbandry and Animal Ecology – Understanding the basics of maintaining a thriving animal collection to meet state and federal standards
  • Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
  • Customer Service – Adheres to the Coral Hospitality Basics of Service standards; responds promptly to customer needs
  • Interpersonal Skills – Listens to others without interrupting; focuses on solving conflict, not blaming
